in natural health clinics from the early 80'sthrough the 90s' and my speciality was digestive care so it was a result of being, workingwith people with their digestive systems, for many many years i began to formulate productsfor my clients. so after that i decided to put one of my products in the health foodstores and there it went. question:how many products do you currentlyhave in canada? brenda: we have approximately 65 productsavailable in canada question: why is detoxification so important? brenda: detoxification is very important becauseall of us are carrying around toxins. and a lot of them are in our fat cells. brain,anywhere we have fat on the body. most people
don't realize it, but there is 85,000 differentchemicals in our environment. and when they did a study and they tested the saliva andurine of the average person. they found the average person carries around, 92 differentchemicals in their blood. that's an amazing amount of chemicals, that we have no ideahow 1 chemical effects the body let alone the synergy of 90 something. so with detoxificationwe are able to bring the level of toxicity down in the body, by doing a cleanse. of coursethey will build up again, and that's why you cleanse periodically. question: how should you begin detoxifying? brenda: for someone who has never detoxifiedbefore, it's best to start slowly. and incorporate
a good diet, maybe some juicing in. we havesomething called first cleanse, that's very gentle for the first cleanser. you need toinclude fibre in a cleansing program, during the time you do it. and then if you cleansedbefore, or have a lot of problems with constipation. you'd probably wanna move onto cleansesmart.it's a 30 day program and it's very concentrated to target the channels of elimination, specificallythe liver which holds a lot of chemicals. brenda's top three tips for digestive care the 3 things that people can do to improvetheir digestive system is #1 is to make sure they eat a healthy diet. that’s what imalways going to say. plenty of vegetables and fruit, good lean protein and good qualityfats. the second thing they can do is probiotics.
a high potency probiotic multistrain, meaningat least 10 strains of probiotics. every single day take a probiotic. and then making surethey have enough fibre in their diet. and i mean between 25 and 35 grams a day. what type of fibre do you recommend? so fibre supplementation is important. acaciafibre a balance of soluble and insoluble fibre in a supplement is great. what is leaky gut? so leaky gut what it really is just to giveyou a simple term is inflammation inside your digestive tract and when we have that inflammationinside the digestive tract we probably don’t
have enough of the good bacteria, the probiotics.and a lot of the time it's because we have food sensitivities and a lot of things thathave accumulated over time. and here's a way to look at it. if you had a sunburn on yourskin, you would become red right? and it would be inflamed. it's the same thing happeningon the inside of the long digestive tube that we have. and so what happens is it becomesinflamed, it's like a barrier. you don’t want large molecules entering your blood stream.you really want nutrients, vitamins and minerals and antioxidants. when large protein moleculesenter your blood stream, they circulate throughout your body and cause more inflammation in yourjoints, your brain, your digestive tract. so leaky gut is when the barrier between the lining of the digestive tract and your
blood stream has been broken so to speak, so more things, toxins can enter the blood stream. why are probiotics so important? probiotics are important for people's health because they repopulate the digestive tractwith good friendly bacteria. and probiotics contain lactobacillus and bifidobacteria andwe have about the weight of a brick inside of us of this good bacteria. so we want theabundance of the good bacteria to be at the highest level. and what probiotics do is theysupport immunity, they support making vitamins b and k, they also help keep inflammationdown in the body and their like warriors inside of us, they help ward off viruses and bacterialinfections and things like that. so it's very
important to keep the good bacteria levelshigh and by taking a probiotic. brenda's new book: "the skinny gut diet" my new book out is called the skinny gut diet. it's out october the 7thâ and its the resultof me researching and finding out all the different scientific research that supportedprobiotics and weight management. the skinny on probiotics and weight loss i started by recruiting a group of people who needed to lose anywhere from 20 to 60 pounds. sowith this group of people i worked for about 6 months and the first thing i did was i dida stool test to see what the levels of good
bacteria were in their digestive system. andevery 6 weeks i re tested them. so i started with their diet, i changed their diet. i addedin fibre, probiotics a lot of fermented foods, some yogurts and keifer. and over a periodof 3 months i documented all of this and put together the program and everyone lost weightwhich was great. some people lost 20 pounds some people lost 50-60 pounds. and so theskinny gut diet is about how by changing your gut bacteria when it's out of balance willcreate weight loss in you and that's what this information has started about a decadeago when the scientists at the university of st. louis began to do it in mice and thenthey began to do it in humans. so i took that research and applied it toward a group ofpeople and it worked.
